Lucky New Year

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn the Lake District near Lake Windermere, one holiday, we came across this tree stump that had copper two pences and pennies  and a few five pences hammered in to it. We stopped and commented on it and a couple sitting nearby said people hammer the coins in for luck.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASome of the coins looked as though they had been embedded there for quite a long time. Two had ink lines around them.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe strongest one of us tried to add to the collection using a found boulder as a hammer. It was not as easy at it was assumed it would be!

We all like to try to do stuff that may improve our luck and it is difficult to resist doing so, superstitious or not!

Here is to the forthcoming year and all the good luck it may bring   🙂
